Christianity Unpacked

Is it already in your school?

We have been able to secure funding to offer the "Christianity Unpacked" triple cd of PowerPoints and lesson materials free to every Local Authority in England and Wales. Those LEA's marked in green on the map have now received the cds for distribution to all schools - so you may already have a copy in your own school! (Those shown in orange have received a limited number for assesment at this stage.) If you can't find a copy in your school do get in touch with us.

We suggest you upload the materials to the school's intranet, or copy them directly onto each pc. Additional copies of Christianity Unpacked may be purchased at £15.00 each (see below).

We expect to be making the cd available free to Scottish Authorities in the Autumn term.

Christianity Unpacked
"Christianity Unpacked" contains an updated and expanded version of the popular "What's It Like To Be A Christian?"; "Celebrations", which looks at Christian weddings, funerals, festivals, art, symbols etc. and "Key Teachings of Jesus". Ideal for whole class teaching using an interactive whiteboard or data projector. Thirty-four topics are introduced by a PowerPoint presentation with videos, spoken commentary and questions to stimulate class discussion. They are followed up by discussion-based group work and thinking skill activities. Although aimed at ks2, the resource contains a wealth of video and other material which, used selectively, would be helpful for ks1 and lower ks3.

Rosemary Rivett, Director of Professional Services, RE Today, and Executive Officer, NATRE (formerly PCfRE) says of the project::

"Using the CDs is very straightforward and intuitive, and it seems you can't 'get lost' - you can always find your way back to where you started quickly. The images are crisp and contemporary, and invite you to look at them and think about what they represent. The activities are varied and challenging, and appropriate to the age group. There isn't an overload of content, but carefully selected detail to act as a stimulus to questioning and discussion - and thereby understanding of the key issues.

"I am delighted to commend 'Christianity Unpacked' as a relevant, engaging and thought-provoking resource to support the teaching of Christianity. It has been developed with the needs of local agreed and aided school syllabuses in mind, alongside the learning needs and interests of young people. The diversity that is found in the Christian tradition is reflected, and the user is given a clear idea of the way in which faith impacts in a variety of ways on the everyday lives of believers in contemporary society."
