Easy Pancake Recipe

Always be extremely careful when cooking, and make sure there's an adult around to keep an eye on things! Don't forget to wash your hands before you start. This basic recipe makes enough batter for about 8 pancakes.

For the batter:

  • 4oz (100g) plain flour
  • Half a Pint (250ml) of milk
  • 1 medium sized egg
  • Pinch of Salt

2oz (50g) lard or fat - for the frying pan.
Sugar, lemon, orange to flavour.

  • Beat the ingredients of the batter together until thoroughly smooth, and if possible leave to stand for 30 minutes.
  • Heat the fat in the frying pan until very hot.
  • Add enough batter to thinly cover the base of the pan, and tilt until the base is covered.
  • Cook until the underside is golden brown - it won't take very long.
  • Flip or toss the pancake to cook the other side - you can turn it with a spatula if you prefer ...
  • Cook until that side is also golden brown.
  • Serve rolled with sugar and lemon or orange, as you like!
