Lent and Holy Week

How do christians celebrate Lent?

Christians spend the 40 days of Lent preparing for Easter Day. They set aside time to think about whether they are living in a way that is pleasing to God. They will ask for God's forgiveness and for His help to live in the way that He wishes. Christians remember, in a special way, all that Jesus did for each of them when He died on the cross on the first Good Friday and how He overcame sin and death by rising from death on the first Easter Sunday. Many Christians will give up some luxuries and fast during Lent. This means they give up eating certain foods or meals, to help them concentrate on God.

Do all christians celebrate Lent in the same way?

Although Lent is a Christian festival it is not celebrated in all churches in the same way. In the Anglican and Roman Catholic churches it is a very important time of year. Other types of churches will often join in with some Lent activities but usually do not remember Lent in quite the same way.
