What Does The Bible Say ... About Worship?

The word worship means 'worth-ship' - giving God what he is worth. The Bible uses the same word for both 'worship' and 'service' - whether praying in church or serving God by helping others - both are acts of worship for God.
Christian worship can happen both publicly with a group of others or privately on your own. It includes:
singing
SINGING
"Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts."
(The Bible, Colossians chapter 3 verse 16)
prayer
PRAYER
"They all met together continually for prayer."
(The Bible, Acts chapter 1 verse 14)
child and Bible
READING THE BIBLE
"Let the words of Christ live in your hearts and make you wise."

communion
COMMUNION
"On the first day of the week (Sunday) we gathered to observe the Lord's Supper (communion)."
(The Bible, Acts chapter 20 verse 7)
giving
GIVING
"On every Lord's Day (Sunday) each of you should put aside some amount of money in relation to what you have earned and save it for the offering."
(The Bible, 1 Corinthians chapter 16 verses 1 - 2)
preaching
EXPLAINING THE BIBLE
"Preach the word of God (Bible). Patiently correct, rebuke and encourage your people with good teaching."
(The Bible, 2 Timothy chapter 4 verse 2)
meditation
MEDITATION (quiet reflection)
"O God, we meditate on your unfailing love as we worship ..."
(The Bible, Psalm 48 verse 9)
