Weddings

arriving at the church
Where and How?

We married in a Baptist church. It was the church we had been going to together for a few years. The marriage service was led by our Pastor, my youth leader read from the Bible, and my uncle gave a talk. The service was very personal; everyone involved knew us well, and were celebrating our wedding with us. This is what we felt was important - to celebrate this day with our friends and family.

On the day, I wore a beautiful wedding dress and veil. I had three bridesmaids, my sister and two cousins. I arrived at the church in a car with ribbons on the bonnet and wheels, and the photos started there. I remember being really nervous, and amazingly happy.

At the beginning of the marriage ceremony my father handed me over to my future husband. This is because the Bible says a woman will leave her father and mother to marry.

We promised to love and honour each other through all the good times and the bad. We gave each other rings as a symbol of our marriage, and signed a special register that shows who was married, and by whom, and who were the witnesses to this marriage.
