Saint Patrick, Patron Saint of Ireland (385 - 17th March 461)

St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick was captured by pirates and made a slave in Ireland. In his need, he turned to God for help, and after he was freed he decided to go back to Ireland to tell people about Jesus. Large numbers of people became Christians because of his preaching. He spent the rest of his life in Ireland, founding a strong church there.

St. Patrick's Day is 17th March.

St. Patrick used a shamrock to help explain how God is 'Trinity' - three in one, Father, Son and Holy Ghost. The shamrock is now one of the national emblems of Ireland.
