Funerals

Funeral Service

Christians will hold a funeral service to say 'thank-you' to God for the dead person, and to celebrate their life.

Funeral services usually include a time when friends and relatives can talk about the person who died, remembering happy times and the good things that they did. In the past it was the fashion to write these thoughts down on the memorial stone of the grave.

What would you like people to say or write about you?

People talk about their memories of the person who died
We read from the Bible
The Bible

The Bible is read, because it talks about heaven. Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies."
(The Bible, John chapter 11 verse 26)

Colours

When a Christian dies, some people may wear dark colours, because they are sad. Others will wear bright colours, to show they are happy because the person is now in heaven.

Songs

People are comforted by songs. This one is about being with Jesus in heaven:

"When I stand in glory I will see His face
and there I'll serve my King for ever in that holy place."

It is called "There is a Redeemer" and was written by Melody Green.
