A Day in the Life ... of a Vicar

hospital visiting
In the afternoons I try to visit people in their homes and once a week I go to the hospital and spend time with people from the parish who are there.
At the service when I was ordained a Priest, the Bishop read out what I was being called to do (job description). He said I was called by God to work with him and other Priests as a servant and shepherd amongst the people where I was to be sent. I was to tell people about God and Jesus, encourage them to say their prayers, baptise and prepare people for confirmation, preside at communion services, lead people in their prayers and worship of God, pray for them, bless them in the name of the Lord, teach and encourage others by my example, Minister to the needs of the sick, prepare the dying for their death.

I am also to search for those people who are finding life difficult or confusing and try to help them find the right pathway. Showing them that the way that leads to freedom is through faith in Jesus Christ.

It's not always an easy job but I feel very privileged to be called by God to do it.
