An Anglican Infant Baptism Service

At the baptism service the Vicar asks the Godparents questions, and they have to make promises in front of all the family and guests at the service.

The Vicar says:
'Will you pray for them (the child being baptised), draw them by your example into the community of faith, and walk with them in the way of Christ?'

The Godparents then reply:
'With the help of God, we will.'

The Vicar then says:
'Will you care for them, and help them to take their place within the life and worship of Christ's Church?'

When a baby is baptised in an Anglican service, the Vicar will usually sprinkle water on his or her head and draws a cross in water on the baby's forehead, as a sign of the child's new life with Christ. The Vicar takes the water from the font and holds the baby over the font to catch the water.
