The High Altar
At the front of the Quire is the most important altar - the High Altar - in the Minster. The icon shows St. Peter, the patron saint of York Minster.
The lectern is shaped like an eagle. It is used to hold the Bible for the Bible readings.
The Lectern
The Cathedra
The official Cathedra is on the south side of the Quire. It is made to match the pulpit on the north side.
The pulpit
In the middle ages almost all the services would have been held in the Quire.
