At the front of the nave is the altar used for communion. You can see the altar rails where people kneel to take the bread and wine. The Bible is read from the lectern, and explained in sermons from the pulpit.

Today, the nave is used for worship on Sunday mornings, and for many special occasions. It can seat 2,000 people. When it was built, there were no chairs and it was not used for regular services. It is even possible that fairs and markets were held here. These took place on special religious days, and would include colourful church processions. Baptisms also took place here.
