Outside Westminster Cathedral

the outside of Westminster Cathedral

The main building of Westminster Cathedral was finished in 1903, although work on the decoration still continues today.

Built of brick, it was designed to look like an eastern basilica - it is most like St. Mark's Basilica in Venice.

Can you see the similarities between
Westminster Cathedral and St. Mark's Basilica?

Visitors can climb the high tower for spectacular views over London.

Over the door is a mosaic of Jesus with Mary, Joseph, St. Peter and St. John the Evangelist, to whom the Cathedral is dedicated.
