The Baptistry |
The Baptistry is near the door of the Cathedral because baptism is the way that people show they have entered, or joined, the Christian church. The font is huge - making a round pool of water five feet across. It is this big to remind Christians that the first baptisms were by full immersion - people were ducked right under the water. |

The font is filled with water and blessed each Easter. There is a smaller basin carved into its side that is usually used for baptisms today. Next to the font is the paschal candle. |
