The Lady Chapel is dedicated to Mary the Mother of Jesus.

The Lady Chapel
carving of angels

Above the altar are carved four angels that remind us of the death of Jesus, which is remembered at the altar in the communion service.

The angels hold a cross, a spear (which pierced Jesus side), a crown of thorns and a cockrell (which crowed when Peter denied Jesus).

You can read the story in The Bible, Matthew chapter 27 verses 27 - 54 and John chapter 19 verses 16 - 37.

The font is used for baptisms at the Abbey.

The Paschal candle is behind it.

The Font

Ceiling

This beautiful ceiling was made in 1519. The Lady Chapel is used as the chapel for the Most Honourable Order of the Bath . The brightly coloured banners of the knights of the Bath hang overhead.
