Bekynton's Chantry

Bishop Bekynton gave the city of Wells a public water supply in 1451. A posy of flowers is put on the altar each year by the Mayor to say thank-you.

The carving in Bishop Bekynton's tomb is meant to make us feel scared. It shows the dead body inside the tomb. The artist wants to shock us into thinking about what we believe about life after death, and about God.
