Stavros (Cross) |

| Over the centre of the Iconostasi is the Stavros. It shows Jesus on the cross, with his mother Mary, and St. John, who wrote the Gospel of John in the Bible. It remembers the moment when Jesus asks John to care for his widowed mother (The Bible, John chapter 19 verses 25 - 27). On the four points of the cross are the symbols of the writers of the four Gospels. |
