This is a screen of icons showing different saints. Christ is on the right of the door, with John the Baptist beside him. On the left of the door is Mary the mother of Jesus, with Saint Luke, the patron saint of the church, beside her. |
| A lamp hangs over every icon, symbolising Christ as the light of the world. | ![]() |

St. Maria led a very bad life until she became a Christian. She prayed in the desert for 47 years. When we come to God for forgiveness, we are encouraged to remember her example. |
Mary the mother of Jesus, and baby Jesus. This icon is a picture of an answer to prayer, when Constantinople was miraculously saved from invasion. Each year, on the Friday of the fourth week of Lent, we sing a special hymn to Mary to say thank-you for saving the city. |
