The Baptistry

Baptist churches practice 'believer's baptism'. When a person has decided for themselves that they want to be a Christian, they are baptised in the baptistry (a small pool of water) by being 'dunked' right under the water. The baptistry is covered when it is not in use.

The baptistry is part of the raised platform, so that everyone can see what is happening.

At the Metropolitan Tabernacle, baptisms take place three of four times a year, and several people will be baptised at a time. Baptismal candidates will be at least 16 years old, and during the service they will talk about when they became a Christian. This is called a testimony.
