| George Fox, the founder of the Quakers, came to Somerset in 1656, and large gatherings met to hear him speak. In 1660 these first Quakers bought a cottage to use for worship, which was opposite the present Meeting House. This was a time of persecution for all Christians who did not go to the parish church. | ![]() |
