The Quire

Every evening, over one hundred people gather here for Evensong. The singing is led by the Cathedral Choir.

The boys of the Cathedral Choir live next to the Cathedral. Their day starts with rehearsal before they go to St. Edmund's School. After school there is another rehearsal, then Evensong, followed by homework!

When monks used to live here, their services would take place in the Quire, eight times a day.

The Cathedra
In the Quire is the Cathedra - the Bishops chair. This is where we get the word 'cathedral' from. Canterbury has two bishops, as well as being the home of the Archbishop of Canterbury.
At the front of the Quire is the High Altar - the most important altar in the Cathedral.
