This is where the congregation sit for the main Sunday services. Many times through the year there are special events and services when it is full of people.
Each of the pillars looks like it is made up of a whole cluster of columns, and at the top they branch into sprays of rib vaulting. They are designed to draw a person's eyes up toward the ceiling and their thoughts up towards God.
