The cloisters are covered walkways around a courtyard. Benedictine monks lived at Canterbury Cathedral until the monastery was closed by King Henry the Eighth.

At that time, bookwork would take place in the south (sunny) side, and novices would be taught in the eastern side.

Here, the clergy are processing through the cloisters on their way to a service.
