More on the Quakers |
BaptismWe do not have a ceremony for baptism, but when children reach sixteen they are asked whether they want to stay in membership. Other people usually join the Quaker Meeting when they have been attenders for some time, and feel that they agree with our form of religious life. Two 'visitors' are chosen to talk to them, usually in their own homes, to decide whether they are really ready to become members, or may need a little more time as attenders. The Church YearEarly Friends were against 'the keeping of times and seasons'. They felt that all times and seasons are holy and that no time should be marked out as more holy than another, that what God has done for us should always be remembered, not only on occasions named Christmas, Easter and Pentecost. We do not have special services for church festivals, but we are not miseries! We celebrate Christmas and Easter in much the same way as everyone else, but try to hold the spirit of these great festivals in our hearts all the year, and to act it out in our lives. |
