More on the Independent Evangelical Church |
|
MoneyIndependent Evangelical Churches are self-funding - they rely on the money given by their own congregation. Church members are encouraged to give freely and gladly, believing God will show them how much that should be. |

The usual amount would be a tithe - 10% of one's earnings, some might give more. Giving is a very personal thing, and care is taken not to pressure people into giving. The church uses the tithe for the payment of the Pastor and any other staff. The church might also give 10% of its own income to a missionary project or charity. Sometimes money is collected for a specific project the church is involved in. |

Children's WorkChildren are encouraged to be part of the church 'family'. As services tend to be quite long, there is usually a point at which the children leave for their own activities. The aim is to share what the Bible says in a meaningful and relevant way. Children learn through all sorts of activities - mime, drama, puppets, storytelling and songs. |

Children are encouraged to have a real relationship with God for themselves; to speak and pray to God, and to pray for other people as well as themselves. Larger churches may have separate groups for different age ranges; smaller churches may teach from 5 to 11 year olds all in one group. |

Youth WorkThis is often run by the young, for the young. It aims to be relevant to young people, and to help them through their life choices. The youth may meet regularly as a church to express themselves more fully, in their own brand of music and worship. They will also receive teaching on issues that affect them. They are encouraged to be involved in all aspects of the life of the church, and to meet with groups from other churches. Young people are important - they are recognised as the very future of the church. |
| A typical youth meeting may include a time of worship led by a youth band, a speaker talking on a specific topic, and a discussion time. It may break into small groups after the worship. There is often a chance to get together afterwards for coffee and a chat, a game of pool, and to chill out. There are also opportunities for young people to get involved in overseas missions and in serving the community. | ![]() |
