More on the Independent Evangelical Church |
DedicationThe very young are usually 'dedicated' to the Lord, in a short ceremony, which celebrates their birth, and in which the parents commit themselves to bringing up the child in the Christian faith, knowing that they will be supported in this by the church family, and not just by Godparents. |

CommunionThere is no set format for holding communion. Though some churches make a point of holding it at least once a month, it can be taken more often, or simply done spontaneously if the Pastor wishes. |
You may receive it as bread and wine, or even rolls and ribena! It may be brought to you at your seat and passed around from row to row, or in smaller churches the congregation may move to one or two areas in the church to take it. On occasion, people may move into small friendship or family groups to take it. Most Evangelical churches would encourage the breaking of bread and the sharing of wine also at other times than the Sunday morning meeting - perhaps when meeting informally in friends houses. Again, anyone who wishes may give out the bread and wine. |
|
PrayerThere are usually no set prayers within the services, nor specific people who lead the prayers. Before each meeting there may be a small prayer meeting. When the service begins it is often opened with short prayers. |
|
| There may also be people who come to the front of the service and lead the congregation in prayer. Prayer can also be a spontaneous event, spoken out by people in the congregation if they feel it appropriate. During the week there are also organised prayer meetings. Everyone is encouraged to talk to God in prayer, and to hear God speaking for themselves. | ![]() |
