In an Anglican church, the font is near the door, because baptism is a symbol of entering the church family. Where something is in a church building often has a meaning. |

In Roman Catholic and some Anglican churches you will find a stoup near the door. This is a little bowl of blessed water. It is for people to dip their fingers in and make the sign of the cross as they enter the church building. It is to remind people of their baptism. |
