Looking Inside ... A Roman Catholic Church Building

There are usually statues in Catholic churches. Catholics believe we have friends in heaven who are called saints. They were good people who loved God and are an example to others. Catholics ask the saints in heaven to pray for them. The statues remind Catholics of these friends in heaven.

Saint Patrick
Saint Therese
Mary
There is a statue of St. Patrick in this church because it is named after him. St. Patrick was a bishop so he is wearing bishop's robes and is carrying a bishop's staff which is called a crozier.
This is a statue of St. Thérèse of Lisieux. She was a nun who lived in France at the end of the 19th century. Catholics remember that St. Thérèse prayed all the time to God and loved people very much.
This is a statue of Mary holding her child, Jesus. In front of the statue you can see some candles. Catholics light candles as a symbol of prayer.
