The Holiness MeetingOur Sunday morning or 'Holiness' meeting is attended by a wide variety of people, tiny babies on their mothers' laps, Elderly people who have been part of the corps for many years and friends of all ages. They know that they share the privilege of worship and service with Christians in all parts of the world. When the meeting starts everyone is praising God; the band and the congregation blending in the joyful music of the opening song. Salvationists enjoy singing, but they value too the quiet moments of prayer which follow. Any member of the congregation is invited to speak to God aloud, on behalf of others. |
| No one, except the leader, knows exactly what will happen because Salvation Army meetings do not follow a set pattern. The officer has prepared carefully, trying to include something that everyone, young and old, will find helpful. As Salvation Army beliefs are based on the Bible, he has chosen a passage from this important book. Later he gives a sermon, or talk, to explain the ideas in the passage. An unusual feature of Salvation Army worship is testimony time. The commanding officers are not the only ones to speak in a meeting. Sometimes they invite others to talk about experiences of life as a Christian. This is called giving a testimony. | |
