I Go to the Salvation Army

Meetings

Salvationists, as members of The Salvation Army are called, hold open-air meetings and indoor meetings. Our corps has a band and Songster Brigade (or choir), a Singing Company (junior choir) and a junior band. While we wait for the meeting to begin the band plays - usually it is the tune for the first song to be sung in the meeting. During the meeting each musical group will play or sing something that has a helpful Christian message.

Some Salvation Army halls are about a hundred years old, ours is a modern purpose built hall. Sunlight is reflected from the silvery instruments of the band and it highlights the colourful flags and the crest standing out against the wall at the back of the platform where the songsters are seated. This platform, with a reading desk at the centre, takes the place at the front of the hall where an altar, pulpit and lectern would be in most churches.
