I Go To An Anglican Church |
|
| The Apostles' Creed The Apostles' Creed is said by us at many of our services. We stand up and say this (or something similar) altogether: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, |

We also sing hymns. At some services we have a choir who dress in traditional robes, similar to the Vicar. They also wear pendants to show that they belong to the Royal Society of Church Music. The choir sit in pews at the front of the church (called choir stalls). Pews are the fixed wooden seats often found in old churches. Ours have lots of carving on the ends. We say prayers during each service. These are led by the Vicar and members of the church. We sit or kneel for prayers. We have special soft kneeling pads to kneel on .A passage from the Bible is read at each service. This is read by a different member of the church each week. The passage is often chosen from the Lectionary. The Lectionary is a list of Bible passages set out by the Church of England to be read on each Sunday. Our Vicar always gives a sermon. A sermon is a talk in which the Vicar explains the chosen Bible passage in detail. We believe that God speaks to us through the Bible, so our Vicar explains what we can learn about God from the passage. After the service we stop for coffee and a chat in the church. |
