I Go to an Afro-Caribbean Pentecostal ChurchCommunionOnce a month we have communion. Any one who is a Christian is welcome to join in the communion service with us. This is a time when we remember Jesus' death and resurrection and how this helps us to have a closer relationship with God. During our communion service we stay in our seats and the ushers and hospitality team give us individual cups of wine and wafers and the band sing a song . Kofi then reminds us about what Jesus' did for us by taking the punishment for our sins. We then swap cups and wafers with our neighbours to show that we remember what Jesus did for us by taking the penalty for our sins and that we are a part of Gods family. We then drink the wine and eat the wafer. When Jesus was having his last Passover meal with his disciples, he told them that he would die. The wine had represented the lamb's blood, which was smeared on the doorpost when the Israelites were escaping from slavery in Egypt. Jesus said that the wine now represented the blood that he would shed during his crucifixion. Jesus' blood had to be shed because mankind's relationship with God was spoilt because of sin. The bread which Jesus and the disciples ate, used to represent the bread that the Israelites ate just before they escaped from Egypt. This bread (we use a wafer) now represents his body, which was beaten during his trial and crucifixion. Because Jesus died for us we can now have a complete relationship with God the Father. |
