Christian Response
to Eastern Europe

In the Bible, God spoke to many people and told them what he wanted them to do. You may think that sort of thing doesn't happen any more but you would be wrong. In 1990, Gary Taverner was sitting in his car in a traffic jam when God told him to start helping the people in Romania, who had just overthrown their communist government.

Twelve years later Christian Response to Eastern Europe (CREE), the charity he helped to start, is still helping people in Romania and now the even poorer country of Moldova. The pictures give some idea how poor the people are in these countries.

The Christians who run CREE are all convinced that God wants them to do all they can to help these people, so they collect clothes, bedding, food, computers, bicycles, sewing machines and medical goods in this country. They are sorted and packed, and go to churches in Romania and Moldova where they are given to absolutely anyone who needs them. We do not say the people who receive these gifts have to be Christians, as we want to be able to tell them that God loves them and is using Christians to show them His love.
