Conservative Christians believe something of the personality of the writers comes through in the Bible. The Bible is only the Word of God indirectly. Conservative Christians therefore do not believe the Bible teaches science. The Bible is a book about faith and about God's relationship with humans. It is not intended to be a scientific text book. These Christians therefore would have no problem with accepting some form of evolution. The story of creation in Genesis 1-3 is about why the world was created, not how. What is important is that God created the world- He could have used evolution as his method of creation if He wished to do that.

Conservative Christians, however, do believe that there are a number of truths, inspired by God in the Bible, e.g. that God created the world and guides it, that Jesus died for all human sin and that Jesus performed miracles.

They don't worry about apparent contradictions in the Bible. They would say that the different writers are just describing different versions of the same story, in the same way that different spectators at a football match might describe the same events differently. In the accounts of the resurrection, the important thing isn't who saw Jesus first, but the fact that the resurrection happened.
