These Christians believe that the Bible is free from error. It isn't words of men, but the Word of God, according to fundamentalists. If there appear to be contradictions or differences in accounts of the same event in the Bible, then the contradictions can be explained away. If the Bible seems to contradict science, then the problem is with our understanding of science. A fundamentalist Christian may read in the Bible that the world was made in 6 days and that Adam and Eve were the first humans. It is likely that he or she may believe this account literally and therefore state that evolution (the idea that life on the planet evolved, more complicated creatures developing from simpler creatures through mutations and natural selection), is wrong. |
