The Old Testament is the holy book of the Jews. It is the story of the 'Covenant' (a 2 sided promise) God made with the Jewish People. You can find poetry, prayers, history, prophecy and laws in the Old Testament. The Old Testament books were written before Jesus was born. Some people think that because the Old Testament was written thousands of years ago, it can't be relevant today as it must be so out of date. Christians still find reading the Old Testament useful today. The Old Testament speaks of a Messiah (Anointed One) who would come in the future to bring peace. (The Bible, Isaiah chapter 53 verses 1-12, The Bible, Daniel chapter 9 verse 25). Christians believe that Jesus is the Messiah about which the prophecies spoke. |
