| Christians seek to put into practice the teaching of the Bible - which includes the Old Testament, as well as the teachings of Jesus and the early church. Jesus did not contradict Old Testament teaching
he extended it and his followers developed it further and give us models for action as well as ideas to live by. Hospitality, care for refugees, fair wages and help for the poor were clear teachings in the Old Testament and are found in other religious faiths too. Jesus Christ did not just teach about a loving Father God, he demonstrated God's love in caring for outcasts (lepers, aliens), feeding the hungry (feeding of the 5,000) and healing the sick, who were also often beggars (blind man at the Temple gate). His disciples continued this message and mission as the Acts of the Apostles shows and they especially helped each other with gifts, by selling land and sharing income. These principles and actions inform and guide Christian Aid in their work. |
