In Christianity, the ideal is monogamy - which means that Christians believe that one man should marry one woman. Generally, Christians choose their own marriage partner, and do not usually have arranged marriages. This is a cultural thing, however, not a religious belief. In India Christians often do have arranged marriages as that is part of their culture. In the Bible in 2 Corinthians chapter 6 verse 14 it says, "Don't team up with those who are unbelievers." (NLT). Many Christians believe that this means that a Christian should only marry another Christian. This would make it easier for a Christian to practice his religion at home. |
