Cannabis Case Studies: Ben's Story

Ben from West London also decided the drug scene wasn't for him. The 18 year old works with charity Hope UK to warn teenagers about the dangers of drugs, but he regularly smoked cannabis when he was 16. He stopped after about a month.

'I decided I didn't want to get into that lifestyle,' he says. 'I wanted to move on. It's affected some of my mates a lot. One friend I grew up with got really messed up by smoking weed (cannabis). He can't think properly and is also a mess physically, although I think he takes other drugs too. I think cannabis does lead on to other stuff because there comes a point when it's just not strong enough any more. I've got mates who've gone on to use white widow - which is a mixture of cannabis and cocaine.' (N.B. White widow also refers to a strong strain of cannabis).
