HELPING THE CRIMINAL

Elizabeth Fry in the Quaker Tapestry

Christians throughout history have tried to help people whatever they have done wrong. The Salvation Army has concerned itself with social justice and has provided support groups for ex-prisoners.

Elizabeth Fry was a Quaker (member of the Society of Friends denomination) who campaigned to have the conditions of women prisoners improved.

Christians today often visit prisoners or write to them. They run Alpha groups in prisons. All prisons have chaplains who seek to meet the spiritual needs of the prisoners. There are prisoners who become Christians in prison and then do change their life for the better.
