What the Churches Say: The Baptist Church |
|
Baptist's believe in the sanctity of life and the need to "preserve human relationships with God, each other and the world". In considering both contraception and abortion, their concern is to protect the life of the foetus. However, they too recognise that taking life may be the lesser of two evils in cases of rape, incest, threat to well-being of the mother, the foetus and wider family. CONTRACEPTIONContraception is seen as a gift from medical science under God's sovereignty. Choosing not to have or space families is morally defensible, considering the needs of the world, population size and family responsibility. However, those contraceptives which have an abortifacient function e.g. I.U.D. and various pills are considered to take human life and should be avoided. Choosing not to have or to space families is a morally defensive choice considering the needs of the world, population size and the couples responsibility to each other and any children they may have. |
