Do Christians Drink Alcohol ?

Some do - and some don't!

Drinking alcohol was a normal part of life in Jewish society in Jesus' day, as it continues to be today. Jesus' first recorded miracle was to change water into wine at a wedding, ( The Bible, John chapter 2 verses 1-11 ) - clearly he had no problems with social drinking!

The Bible does, however, teach that drunkenness is wrong and can lead to other bad things ( The Bible, Ephesians chapter 5 verse 18 ): 'Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life.'

The Bible also teaches Christians to set a good example in the way that they live, ( The Bible, 1 Timothy chapter 4 verse 12 ) and to avoid doing things that may harm others if they copy them: 'Don't eat meat or drink wine or do anything else if it might cause another Christian to stumble.' ( The Bible, Romans chapter 14 verse 21 ).

For this reason, in an age when alcohol abuse causes more deaths and social problems than drug abuse, many Christians choose to be 'teetotal' and not drink alcohol at all. For their sake some churches provide non-alcoholic communion wine.
