What Is A 'Born Again' Christian? |
Jesus said, 'Unless you are born again you can never see the Kingdom of God.' ( The Bible, John chapter 3 verse 3 ) and 'For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son (to die on the cross) so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.' ( The Bible, John chapter 3 verse 16 ). The Disciple Peter also refers to being 'born again': 'By his boundless mercy God has given us the privilege of being born again.' ( The Bible, 1 Peter chapter 1 verse 3 ). The term 'born again Christian' usually refers to Evangelical Christians that are found today within all denominations of the Christian Church. They believe that a person becomes a Christian when they come to believe in Jesus Christ for themselves, that he died on the cross to bring them God's forgiveness. They believe that the 'new birth' is a spiritual new beginning, the start of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through faith in him. |
